ABQ RIDE Adds New Park and Ride Location at
Singing Arrow Community Center
The City Transit Department, ABQ RIDE, has added a new Park and Ride location at the Singing Arrow Community Center. The Park and Ride will serve Routes 1, 66, and 777. This is a great time to use public transit if you haven't tried it yet, and the new Park and Ride location makes it that much easier to park your car and leave the driving to ABQ RIDE. To learn more, visit: https://www.cabq.gov/transit/routes-and-schedules/park-ride
On these days the city’s Solid Waste Management Department will pick up residential green waste at no additional charge.
Solid Waste customers should have their green waste at the curb by 7 a.m. on the day of their regular trash collection day. All green waste must be placed 5 feet from automated trash and recycling containers as well as any large items scheduled for pick-up. Solid Waste customers must place their green waste (leaves, grass, and brush) in trash bags.
Each trash bag should not weigh more than 40 pounds. Customers that have branches must cut them to four-foot lengths and bundle them securely.
The following items will not be picked up:
The green waste is processed into a rough chip mulch and is used to help prevent erosion at the Cerro Colorado Landfill.
Call 505-761-8167 with questions.

Four Hills Village Fall Cleanup on
Saturday, September 24, 2022
Saturday, September 24, 2022
The Four Hills village Association again registered Four Hills Village for the City-wide “Company’s Comin Fall Neighborhood Cleanup” held on Saturday Sept. 24, 2022 from 9 AM until Noon. Our assigned areas were Four Hills Rd from south of the Tijeras Canyon bridge to the Stagecoach Rd “Y” and the Barsis-Four Hills Park on Stagecoach Rd. and Running Water Circle. Unfortunately, we had a much lower than previous year’s turnout. Between the two locations we had only nine stalwart souls come out to improve the FHV entrance and its park.
Steve Brugge took on the lead role for Four Hills Rd and was ably aided by Hannah and her daughter, Lydia, and another gentleman from the north side of the bridge (sorry, I didn’t get his name).
The Four Hills Road Team trimmed the bushes along the side of the road, picked up trash (including a twin mattress set), and pulled numerous goat heads, tumbleweeds, and other verminous weeds.

The Barsis-Four Hills Park crew was headed up by Rusty Goetz who was ably assisted by Andrew and Ellen Lipman, Jennifer Lopez, and Stephen and Nikki Marinsek. The park crew collected trash, timbered many large Chinese Elm saplings, and pulled bunches of weeds, including goat heads and tumble weeds. All of these plants are invasive and are water-hogs.
Waste Management sent out a truck that circled by a couple of times to collect our bags of trash and weeds. They even hauled off the mattress set, even though the city had said they would only take bagged trash. Go Team!

Folks, we badly need more volunteers for future neighborhood cleanups and projects in our adopted Manzano/Four Hills Open Space. The work is as hard or easy as you want to make it. These are opportunities to spend time out of doors, meet your neighbors, and perhaps make new friends. It’s also a wonderful chance to learn more about the natural environment and to feel really good about yourself as you contribute to the betterment of our community.
Thank you to all our neighborhood volunteers!

Free Neighborhood Shredding Event
Saturday, September 17, 2022
Time: 9am-12pm
Location: 802 Martingale Lane
Time: 9am-12pm
Location: 802 Martingale Lane
Hosted by the Four Hills Village Association. Open to all FHV residents and our neighbors. Same place as last year. The AA Mobile Shredders truck will be located in front of 802 Martingale Ln SE, 87123. Regular staples are OK but no binders, paper clips, or plastics. You can watch your records be destroyed on site. Be green and see you there.
Followup
The Annual Shred Event, open to all Four Hill Village residents and paid for by the Four Hills Village Association, was again held at the driveway of Rusty Goetz’s home on 802 Martingale Ln SE, on Saturday morning, 9/24/2022. The AA Mobile Shredders truck was parked in the street from 9 AM until noon. During that time 38 families delivered more than one and half tons of paper to be shredded. Several folks took advantage of the offer to watch their private documents go through the shredder. Special thanks go to Steve Brugge for manning the station for duration and lifting many bundles of papers into the bins. Several other present and former FHVA board members came by to contribute paper for shredding, help transfer bags and boxes of papers and to cheer us on. A good and an environmentally sound time was had by all.

Water Your Trees - Very Serious Fire Risk to Four Hills Village
Four Hills Village, Winterwood, Hidden Valley, and Executive Hills neighborhoods are all in a very vulnerable position for grass fire as well as forest fire. We are very, very dry up here and many trees are dead or dying. The very things that make our neighborhood attractive, also make it more susceptible to fires.

Fall Neighborhood Cleanup
Saturday, Sept. 24, from 9 AM to Noon
CABQ and Waste Management are again sponsoring a Fall Neighborhood Cleanup across Albuquerque on Saturday, Sept 24, from 9-12 noon. Four Hills Village is registered to clean Four Hills Rd from the Tijeras Canyon bridge up to the Stagecoach “Y” and the Four Hills-Barsis Park at Stagecoach Rd and Running Water Circle
If you can help clean and weed, please wear enclosed shoes and appropriate outerwear for hot work and weeds that can bite 😉, and, if you can, bring work gloves, weed digging implements or small shovels. We will gather at the Winterwood Way/Four Hills Rd intersection to clean Four Hills Rd and at the Running water entrance of the park as parking is easier in these places. Bags and water will be supplied at both locations. City trucks will come to collect the trash bags.
We have always have had fun at these events and any level/amount of work is valuable to all of us and our neighborhood. If you are planning to come and/or if you have questions, please email me at [email protected]. We would like to get headcount for logistics but will be really glad to see you out there even if you don’t contact me ahead of time.

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign to promote police-community partnerships (https://natw.org/).
Here in Four Hills Village, our Four Hills Village Association works with the Foothills Command Substation of the Albuquerque Police Department (APD, https://www.cabq.gov/police/area-commands/foothills-area-command), and coordinates with the women's Four Hills Neighbors (FHN), to organize social get-togethers to which residents and our local APD officers (and some other City officials) are invited.
This year, the parties (usually seven to ten, scattered throughout Four Hills Village) will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 2, 2022. If you may be interested in hosting one of these neighborhood National Night Out parties, please contact Andrew Lipman, FHVA President, at [email protected], and check this website from time to time for further details.

Fireworks Ban
The Bernalillo County Commission has banned the use of any fireworks in all of its unincorporated areas. The US Forest Service has a standing ban of all fireworks in all of its managed areas, and the City of Albuquerque also has a standing ordinance which prohibits the sale and use of all Aerial Fireworks and Ground Audible Devices within the city limits. All of these bans carry penalties.
Four Hills Village is located within the city limits of Albuquerque and the FHVA Board requests that all FHV residents pay attention to these firework bans and not use ANY fireworks until the extreme fire danger has passed and the bans are modified or rescinded.

Albuquerque Leads the Way:
The Why and How of
Backyard Refuge Certification
Monday, May 23, 2022
1:00-2:00pm
Singing Arrow Community Center
13200 Wenonah Ave SE,
Albuquerque, NM 87123
"Albuquerque Leads the Way: The Why and How of Backyard Refuge Certification” is a free presentation, arranged by the Four Hills Neighbors' Garden Club and given by Ann Harris Davidson.
Backyard Refuge Certification is a relatively new concept that is promoted by both the National Wildlife Federation and the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (through its "Urban Wildlife Conservation Program", in association with its Valle de Oro National Wildlife Refuge, which is identified as one of the nation's few "Priority Urban Wildlife Refuges").
This presentation will cover the value to your family and to our community when more urban yards (even small ones) adopt the simple practices (which many of us do anyway) that enable this recognition.
Please r.s.v.p. to Ginger Grossetete at 505-280-9497,
or [email protected]

Homeless Task Force
Our District 9 Councilwoman Renee Grout’s first priority is tackling homelessness and associated issues (crime, the environment, etc.). Renee is beginning to gauge interest from constituents who might be interested in participating in a task force that would learn about homeless issues and give recommendations on solutions. She’s not looking for experts, but concerned citizens who are willing to ask a lot of questions, learn about the issues, and brainstorm recommendations and best practices. If anyone is interested, they can email Renee [email protected] and/or Rachel Miller [email protected] (Renee's Policy Analyst).
