Four Hills Village sign
The plans for the new Four Hills Village sign, [design shown below, beginning installation work shown above] which will have an information board and will greatly enhance the entrance to Four Hills Village, have received the necessary approvals and are currently with the contractor. The $20,000 that our District 20 State Representative Abbas Akhil secured for security cameras near the sign is available, earmarked in a City of Albuquerque account. Collaboration with the Albuquerque Police Department (APD) is ongoing concerning the installation and potential monitoring of the cameras. City Councilor Don Harris has agreed to provide the funding for the lighting of the sign.
Local Municipal Activities Update
In our on-going efforts to support the beautification of the entrance to Four Hills Village, we have been working with the City and seeking State funding for the Four Hills Road Right-of-Way (ROW) Landscape Stabilization and Erosion Control Project, which will provide new landscaping on the east side of Four Hills Road. Councilor Harris is funding the design, with the DMD responsible to provide us with a rendering of the proposal.
The Tijeras Arroyo BioZone involves the City purchasing and developing more Open Space and allowing zoning changes for business development in the East Route 66 sector. Signage, to provide information and status about the projects, has been approved for placement along the fences, with the signs expected to be installed in the coming weeks.
Councilor Harris has deferred, until June or later (in the hope of being able to hold a public information meeting), a bill for the Route 66 Memorial, which is planned to offer City Council support for federal funding for East End Route 66 Sector re-development.
Some of the city's cultural institutions, such as the BioPark, will be reopening later in June (https://www.cabq.gov/culturalservices/biopark/news/abq-biopark-limited-reopening) with limited capacity, strict guidance, and mask use requirements. No enclosed areas, such as the Bugarium or the Penguin Chill, will be opened.

Singing Arrow Community Center
The ground-breaking for the new Singing Arrow Community Center [architect's rendering shown above] took place on May 18th. It was attended by Mayor Tim Keller, Counselor Harris, and various City Department Directors, as reported in the Albuquerque Journal (https://www.abqjournal.com/1457234/work-starts-on-singing-arrow-community-center.html). This new facility will replace an older facility that is three portables with a nice facade. The project is anticipated to last 440 days and once completed will have a new fitness room, game room, crafts room, computer room and a warming kitchen. This facility is open to all and will be the closest community center to Four Hills Village.
The Singing Arrow Arts Festival is being planned for summer/fall 2021 to showcase the archaeological ruins, beautiful park, new Community Center and cultural influences of the area. Liaison with a variety of cultural institutions and City contacts is on hold due to the current COVID-19 Pandemic restrictions.
